Clarence W. “Bud” Jacobs 1913-2005

Clarence W. “Bud” Jacobs, 92, formerly of 3265 2nd Street and Windmill Manor died at UIHC Tuesday, October 4, 2005 following a brief illness.

Graveside Services will be held Friday, October 7, 2005 at 11am at Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, IA 52240. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.

Clarence, known as Bud by many, was born April 20, 1913 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Ernest and Clarabelle Oathout Jacobs. On September 10, 1935 he married Bernice DeVault in Iowa City.

Bud was a 1929 graduate of City High School and a graduate of the Hohenschuh-Carpenter School of Embalming in St. Louis. Bud had served in the US Army Signal Corps during World War II.

Bud was a funeral director with Oathout Funeral Home in Iowa City for thirty years. He later was employed at the University of Iowa Physical Plant, retiring in 1976. Bud also farmed for many years in Clear Creek Township.

Bud was a member of the Eagles Lodge, a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Izaak Walton League, and for over 70 years the Odd Fellows. He had served on the Clear Creek School Board in the 1950’s.

Bud and his wife, Bernice, enjoyed spending weekends at their cabin near Rochester on the Cedar River. He loved to fish, hunt and do crossword puzzles.

Bud is survived by his sons, Gary (Judy) Jacobs of Coralville and Paul (Shirley) Jacobs of North Liberty; three grandchildren, Kristin, Scott (Elaine), Christine (Brian) Steele; four great-grandchildren, Cory, Karyn, Kevin, and Connor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one brother, Howard.
