Pauline J. Shapcott, 68, of 5254 Highway 6 S.E. in Iowa City, died Monday, September 19, 2005 at Windmill Manor in Coralville after a lengthy illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10:00 am at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with Reverend Michael Phillips officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Iowa City Hospice.

Pauline was born April 1, 1937 in West Branch, the daughter of Francis & Hilda (Bartlett) Kessler. She graduated from West Branch High School where she was very active in school activities. Pauline married Howard Shapcott February 7, 1959 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Iowa City.

Pauline worked for First National Bank in Iowa City as a teller & customer service
representative and later as a bookkeeper for Home Town Dairies. She was vice-president and treasurer for Fay’s Fire Equipment in Iowa City. Pauline will be remembered as a courageous, upbeat and emotionally strong individual.

She is survived by her husband Howard; her children, Laurie Hittenmiller & her husband Bill of Shueyville, Brian Shapcott & his wife Mary Beth of Iowa City and Julie Freese & her husband Jeremy of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Dustin, Kelcy, Andrew, Tristan & Griffin; a sister Rachel Walton of New Jersey; many nieces and nephews and her beloved tabby cat, Target.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Ralph.
