Caroline “Carrie” Cilek, 24, 530 Terrace Road died Thursday at Mercy Hospital surrounded by her family.

A Memorial Mass to celebrate Carrie’s life will be Monday, September 5, 2005 at 11AM at the Newman Catholic Student Center. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 8PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a Vigil Service will be recited at 7PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Reach for your Potential, 1705 S. First Ave, `Iowa City 52240 or the Mercy Hospital Foundation, 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, Iowa 52245.

Carrie was born June 1, 1981 in Iowa City, the daughter of Mike and Judy (Whipple) Cilek. Carrie attended Hoover Elementary, Southeast Junior High and was a 1999 graduate of Regina High School.

Carrie loved people. She was able to connect with them in many ways. She volunteered at The Crowded Closet and worked at Goodwill Industries, the Hoover Presidential Library, Reach for your Potential and Community Mental Health Center. She played drums in the RHS band and was a member of Sound Reach Choir.

Carrie’s gift was to live in the present and cherish time spent with family and friends. What for some would be struggle, was life for Carrie, and living was what she did best!

Carrie is survived by her parents, Mike and Judy of Iowa City; her brother, John Cilek, Philadelphia, PA., her brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Nina Cilek, Colorado Springs, CO.; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Chuck and Dorothy Whipple, Paul and Lorada Cilek; and her cousin Luke Daters Cilek.
