Rokuko Henderson, 100, of Iowa City, died on Saturday, January 11, 2023 at Iowa City Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. According to her wishes she has been cremated and will be interred in Tokyo, Japan. No local services will be held.

Rokuko was born on February 1, 1923 the first daughter of Yasutaro Yamashita and Shime Kubota in Tokyo, Japan. She immigrated to the United States in 1952 and settled in Iowa City in 1970. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Rokuko found joy in crocheting and created beautiful Afghan baby blankets as well as many hats for newborns at Mercy Hospital. She also enjoyed playing cards, reading and traveling. Rokuko had a special place in her heart for cats and adopted several shelter cats throughout the years. However, above all, Rokuko was a DIE-HARD Chicago Cubs fan.

Rokuko is survived by her brother, Yukichi Yamashita of Tokyo, Japan, several nephews and nieces and special friends, Connie Olson and Carol Nicol. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.
