Lawrence (Larry) Mason Ross, 92, died December 14, 2022 at his home in Iowa City, Iowa.

Larry donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine Deeded Body Program and requested no funeral services. He will be recognized at a future memorial service by this program.

Larry was born June 1, 1930, in Lake City, Iowa. He was the son of Mason Hiram and Daisy (Barnum) Ross.

He grew up on the family farm and started his education in the one-room school, Lake Creek #9. He graduated from Lake City High School in 1949. Larry received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Iowa.

He taught for a brief time at the Virginia Commonwealth University. He returned to Iowa and assisted his father on the family farm and worked various jobs in the Iowa City area. He did research on projects for the Stanley Foundation for a number of years and was co-author of a paper on nuclear disarmament.

He enjoyed writing poetry and was a prolific reader of political, historical, and religious publications. Larry was able to discuss the grammar of multiple languages and had studied the origins of words in several languages. He was appreciated locally for his kindness, pleasant nature and marvelous intellect.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters, two brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law. He is survived by nieces and nephews, cousins and their families.
