Ronald “Ron” Gene Vermillion, 70, died on December 15, 2022 at Briarwood Health Care Center. He will be laid to rest next to his parents at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa.

Ron was born on November 15, 1952, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Jack and Mary (Widman) Vermillion.

At a young age, Ron was diagnosed with a degenerative muscular disorder. Despite the diagnosis, it didn’t deter him. He played Trumpet in the school bands. He got his ham radio license and spent hours talking with people from all over the world, something most could not easily do at that time. He had his own boat which he captained on the Sacramento River delta for years. He also attended the University of Iowa for over 20 years receiving multiple certificates.

Ron, a Christian, is now with God and has a new fully functioning body for the first time in over 60 years.

The family would like to thank the staff at Briarwood for their compassionate care of Ron.

Ron is survived by his sister Michelle Vermillion (Frank) McDonald; nieces Kelly (Thomas) Earle and Erin McDonald; nephews James (Brandy) McDonald and Ryan (Madeleine) McDonald; grandniece Kylie and soon to be grandniece Lily.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mary Vermillion and his brother, Dennis.

Online condolences and memories may be made on Ron’s Tribute Wall.
