Richard “Stony” Whitmore, 83, of Oxford, Iowa died on December 7, 2022.

Honoring his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and private family services will be held.

Richard Keith was born on May 6, 1939 in Woodbine, Iowa to Clifford and Vivian (Lewis) Whitmore. He was raised in Woodbine, Iowa, and married Elizabeth “Betty” Curry on June 8, 1968 in North Liberty, Iowa. The couple had two sons and lived in Oxford since 2002.

Stony worked at Firestone, Pudil Plumbing and Heating, and the State of Iowa DOT in maintenance for 23 years, retiring in 1994. He was an avid animal lover, and enjoyed riding motorcycles and old cars. He was called the Trunk Doctor, restoring old trunks, and also collected Chalmers toy tractors.

He was a kind, easy going and soft spoken gentleman all his life and his love will be missed by his family.

Stony is survived by his wife Betty Whitmore of Oxford, Iowa, and their two sons Scott and Rocky Whitmore.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Kent and Jerry Whitmore.
