Joseph “Joe” A. Smelser, 26 of Coralville died, Friday July 22, 2005 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Lensing’s Oak Hill -210 Holiday Road. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 6 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Diane Townsley officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Joseph A. Smelser Memorial Fund.

Joseph was born March 3, 1979 in Colorado the son of Charles and Leone (Mehring) Smelser. On April 9, 2005 he married Kristen Morrow in Oxford, Iowa. He worked as a fork lift operator for Gilcrest Jewett Lumber Co. and he also was a cook at Old Chicago Restaurant. Joe enjoyed hunting, golfing and building model cars.

He is survived by his wife, Kristen Smelser of Coralville, his parents Charles and Leone Smelser of Grand Junction, CO, by his one sister, Michelle Smelser and her fiancé Mark of Grand Junction, Co, by two brothers, Wayne Smelser, Matthew Smelser both of Grand Junction, CO, by his grandmother, Ruth Mehring of Ft. Morgan, CO; He is also survived by his Mother-in-law, Gail Malin of Coralville, by one sister-in-law, Ann Morrow of Coralville, and by one-brother-in-law, Jon Morrow of Cedar Rapids and by his nephews Jared and Jacob Morrow. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles.
