Holly Hirko, 75, of Coralville, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

An informal Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 11:00AM-1:00PM on Saturday, January 29,2022 at Lensings Oak Hill (Holiday Road) in Coralville.

Holly was born on March 13, 1946 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Lucian and Margaret (BOWERS) Erskine. Following graduation from Iowa City High School in 1964, Holly attended the University of Iowa obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in 1968. In 1967, Holly married Steve Hirko at "Old Brick" in Iowa City which was the beginning of 54 years of making wonderful memories together. The couple then moved to Muscatine, Iowa where she taught French for two years; which also included two French Club trips to Paris, France and to Montreal, Canada. In 1970, Holly and Steve moved to Tempe, Arizona and resided there for 22 years where she continued teaching French and earning her Masters Degree at Arizona State University. In 1992, the pair made their way back to the Iowa City area where Holly treasured the idea of black dirt, green grass and a change of seasons.

Upon Holly's return to the Midwest, she completed her pride and joy publication of a French to English translation of a classic children’s book called "Castle of Pictures-A Grandmother’s Tale" In her retirement, Holly's greatest joy was supporting and attending grandkids’ activities and watching them have fun and be happy. They were #1 in her "LOVE" category without a close second place.

Holly is survived by her husband, Steve; her son, Ben (Megan) Hirko; two grandchildren: Luke(13) and Claire(10); sisters: Marilyn (Jim) McCarragher, Katy (Mike) Moore; brother-in-law, Tom Bull and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Carol.
