Joe Martin Tryon, 69, died peacefully Thursday, December 16, 2021 at UIHC.

Funeral Services will be held at 1PM, Monday, December 20, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2730 Bradford Dr, Iowa City, IA 52240. Bishop Trevor Harvey will officiate. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 PM, prior to the service. Burial with Military Honors will follow the service at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa.

Mask wearing is encouraged.

Joe was born December 20, 1951 in Phoenix, AZ, the son of George Earl and Augusta May (Martin) Tryon. Joe served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. In 1976 Joe married Karen Roe.

He was raised in Phoenix where he attended Phoenix College and was a graduate of High-Tech Institute. Joe was a senior test Technician at Rockwell-Collins. He and his family moved to Iowa City from Phoenix in 1999.

Joe was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and IBEW 1634. He was an avid reader, camper, and fisherman.

Joe is survived by his wife, Karen; three children, Kimberly (Robert) Discianno of Mesa, AZ, Joe (Ashley) Tryon II of Seminole, FL, and Joshua (Megan) Tryon of Washington, IA; four grandchildren, Kayla, Tyler, Hinckley, and Jimmer; and his siblings, Lyle (Nadean) Tryon, George Earl (Karen) Tryon, and Lorie (Doug) Brewer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Terry; and sisters, Dorothy “Dot”, Helen, and Barbara.
