Paul R. Cornett, 83, of Iowa City, IA formerly of Chillicothe, OH and Lake Placid, FL died Thursday July 14, 2005 at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 am Tuesday July 19, 2005 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Services, Iowa City, IA. Family and friends may call from 5-7 pm on Monday at the funeral home. Rev. Judy Gingerich will officiate. Burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery with military rites by the Solon American Legion, Stinocher Post #460. A general memorial fund has been established in his name.

Paul was born November 3, 1921 in Whitesburg, KY to Charlie D. and Pearlie (Brown) Cornett. He married Vesta Irene Blair on November 3, 1945 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Paul served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and the US Army in Italy during World War II. Paul was a maintenance supervisor for Atomic Energy Commission in Oakridge, TN and Pikton, OH.

He and his wife moved to the Iowa City area in 2000 to be near their daughter.

Paul was a member of the Solon American Legion and the Alladin Shrine Temple in Chillicothe, OH.

Paul was a devoted husband who cherished his wife and cared for her throughout the years. He would often bring flowers to her. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his daughter and grandchildren.

Paul is survived by his wife Vesta, a daughter Paula Mobily and (Ken) of Iowa City, a sister; Jean Bishop (Ellis) of Burkesville, KY, a brother James Douglas (Charlotte) of Beaver Creek, OH, two grandchildren; Michelle Mobily of Seattle, WA, Matthew Mobily of Iowa City, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ray.
