Marian was born April 21, 1925 in Newport Township, the daughter of Frank and Mae (Hotka) Krall. She was a graduate of City High School and Iowa City Commercial College. On September 30, 1947 Marian married Hal Knowling. Hal died in 1997.

Marian was the head baker at Northwest Junior High School for many years.

Marian was a member of St. Wenceslaus Church and the Iowa City Saddle Club. She loved to travel. In 2005, at the age of 80, and because of the efforts of JC Cortese, a close family friend, Marian traveled to Zadni Lomna, CZ to visit her great grandfather’s birthplace. She enjoyed time spent gardening and playing euchre.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Keystone Place on Forevergreen for the love and care they provided to Marian over the past 4 plus years, to the doctors and staff at UIHC, and to the medical staff at Mercy Hospital for the extraordinary care provided this past week.

Marian is survived by her three daughters, Linda Knowling of Solon, Sandy (Donald B) Dickinson of Brighton, and Connie (James) McRoberts of Oxford; grandchildren, Lea (David) Woodruff, Sarah McRoberts, Tessa McRoberts, and Chloe (Matt) Keister; step grandchildren, Donna (Lee) Duwa, Kim Tew, and David (Debbie) Dickinson; great grandchildren, Madalyn, Lola, and Beckett Keister; Step great grandchildren, Carrington and Remington Duwa, Nicholas and Jason Tew, Bella and Zak Dickinson.
