Vera “Clara” Harrison, 100, of Iowa City, died Friday, May 27, 2005 at Iowa City Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service with the Rev. Dr. Leslie J. Mitkos, Jr. of Staunton, Illinois. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Lensing’s. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church- 310 N. Johnson, Iowa City, IA 52245.

Clara was born March 3, 1905 in Jackson County, Iowa the daughter of Julius and Martha (Ellisatt) Ehlers. She was raised in Jackson County for eight years before moving to Oelwein. She attended Oelwein High School, Upper Iowa University and Pitzes Beauty School.

Clara married Noel E. Harrison on July 5, 1947. Clara and her husband ran Blackstone Beauty Salon in downtown Iowa City for over 50 years. Noel passed away in February 1981. Clara retired in 1995.

Clara was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Clara is survived by her 12 nieces and nephews. The family would like to especially thank Clara’s special friends and care givers Virginia and Ed Dunbar and Sandy Marz.

Clara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers and three sisters.
