Vera I. Frantz, 89, of rural Riverside died peacefully Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at her home.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 28, 2005 at 10AM at St. Joseph’s Church in Hills with Rev. Louis Leonhardt officiating. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Friday from 4 to 8PM, where a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 7:30PM. Memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Hills First Responders. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.

Vera was born January 29, 1916 in Iowa City, the daughter of Homer and Lillie (Beeney) Stimmel. She was a graduate of City High School and had attended business college in Iowa City. On August 29, 1944 she married Eldon V. Frantz at St. Joseph’s Church in Hills. He died in 1983.

Vera and her husband farmed in Liberty Township for many years. In her younger years she had worked at Iowa City City Hall.

Vera was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed the garden and feeding the birds.

She is survived by her three children, James (Hope) Frantz and Alice (Dick) Grimm, both of Riverside and Dorothy (Dean) Miller of Kalona; seven grandchildren, Cheryl (Joel)
Hentrich, Michael Frantz, Eric (Carroll) Graham, Nate Miller and Matthew, Jason and Joe Grimm; four great grandchildren, Ashley, Bethany, Catherine and Jacqueline Hentrich; brother-in-law Paul Milder of Iowa City; sister-in-law Mary Milder of Columbus Junction; and many nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Mabel McCabe and Geraldine Stimmel and one brother Richard Stimmel.
