Leo E. Lenz, 76, of 502 Brady Street, Hills died Monday, May 23, 2005 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 27, 2005 at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Reverend Doug Cue officiating with military graveside services by Lone Tree American Legion. Memorials may be given to the Iowa City Hospice in lieu of flowers. Online condolences for Leo’s family may be sent through our website @www.gayandciha.com.

Leo was born June 17, 1928 in rural Johnson County to Harry and Clara (Emmons) Lenz. Leo graduated from Lone Tree High School. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War and a survivor of the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge. On February 28, 1953 he married Patricia “Pat” Taylor, she preceded him on April 23, 2000. Leo retired in 1989 from the University of Iowa Power Plant where he was a repair foreman. Leo loved books and had a great sense of humor.

His family includes a daughter, Jamie Van Oort of Des Moines, two sons, John and his wife, Janice of Iowa City and Mike of Hills, 6 grandchildren, Shonna, Brandon, Madison, Jeremy, Mark and Kim and a great granddaughter, Cameryn, a sister Lila Bailey and husband, Miles of Hills and a brother, Clyde of Hills.

Leo was preceded by his wife and parents.
