MOTHER OF IRENE GROMLY DIED AT MOUNT VERNON
Second in Family to Fall Victim to Influenza
Iowa City and university circles will be shocked beyond measure to learn of the death at 5 o’clock yesterday of Mrs. Gromly, wife of Dr. G. A. Gromly and mother of Miss Irene Gromly, who died at the hospital here a week ago yesterday.Miss Irene, after taking her degree at Cornell last June, came here and entered the nurse’s training school in order that she might prepare herself for future usefulness. She was stricken with influenza and the mother came to be near her. The daughter died and the mother was stricken with the dread disease.
Doubly Sad
The death of this good mother is made doubly sad from the fact that she is the second of the family to become a victim of the dread disease.
When Miss Irene was stricken the mother came here and spent several days watching by the bedside of her daughter. Before death came to the daughter, however, the mother was stricken and was unable to attend the funeral. From that day she has been very ill until death called her yesterday.Dr. Gromly is well known here in university circles and is a leader in his profession in this section of the state.
Mrs. Gromly was a very active member of the Presbyterian Church, was superintendent of the Sunday school and a prominent worker in the W.C.T.U.
Deceased was fifty years of age and is survived by her daughter, Clair, a young lady still at home and by her husband Dr. Gromly. Burial will be beside the daughter at the cemetery at Mt. Vernon.
Many friends here and at their home will grieve deeply at the sad occurrences of the past week, and will sympathize with them in their deep sorry.
