John D. Smith, 74, who lived in Solon more than 50 years before moving to Burlington, died at a Burlington hospital March 7 after a short illness.
Mr. Smith was born at Solon Feb. 18, 1888, the son of David and Alice Smith.
He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.
Survivors include the widow, Lucille, whom he married June 26, 1916; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Pennington, Viola; 2 sons, Edward, Burlington and Richard, Danville; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Mrs. Joseph Baxa and Mrs. Nettie Adams, both of Lisbon, and Mrs. Margaret Adams of Davenport; and a brother, Louis Smith, Tipton.
Funeral services were March 10 with burial in Oakland cemetery at Solon. Friends may call at the chapel.
