Gary Lee Strank, 73, died Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Windmill Manor in Coralville, IA.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 570 Dublin Drive, Iowa City. Visitation will be at the church from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date in Eaton Rapids, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or Friends of Scouting.
Gary was born February 21, 1947, in Eaton Rapids, MI, to Wendell and Barbara (Myers) Strank. He grew up in Eaton Rapids, where he graduated high school and later married the love of his life, Carol Hannon on April 25, 1968. The couple raised four children, moving to Iowa City in 1984. The couple enjoyed 40 memorable years of marriage before she passed away in 2009 after a long illness.
He worked for Veteran Administration for 40 years. Gary retired in 2010 after 25 dedicated years as the Chief of Voluntary Services for the Iowa City VA Hospital. He even continued volunteering after his retirement, working to ensure the person who took over his position would be able to provide the great service the veterans deserved. If you worked with the Iowa City VA for any reason, you had the pleasure of knowing Gary and his commitment to all Veterans. Every department in the hospital, was blessed with by his hand.
Gary loved spending time with his family, fishing, camping and listening to Country Music.
Gary is survived by his children, Rebecca (Mauricio) Delabra of Iowa City, IA, Shannon Strank (Ernest Gonzales) of Austin, TX, Daniel (Danielle) Strank of Tiffin, IA and Alicia Strank of Peoria, IL; three grandchildren, Jaxon Strank, Samson Strank, David Delabra, and Mackenzie Delabra Sotelo, and two brothers David (Gail) Strank of Eaton Rapids, MI, and Barry Strank of Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
