V. D. Bumgardner, an old and respected citizen of Oasis, passed away Monday night at 11 o'clock at his home. Mr. Bumgardner had been ailing for some time, but really only seriously ill for a couple of days. He has been in the mercantile and grain business at Oasis for many years and is well known in this community.
Funeral services are to be held today at 2:30 from the family home. Rev. G. J. Chalice having charge.

V. D. Bumgardner was born in Salem, Ill., July 29, 1859, and from there moved to Tayorville, Ill., where he was united in marriage to Virginia Bond, Nov. 25, 1880, moving to Sharpsburg, Ill., where they lived three years. Mr. and Mrs. Bumgardner came to Oasis, Iowa, in the spring of 1883 and have lived in this vicinity until Nov. 11, 1918 the date of his death.
He is survived by his wife and three sons and one daughter--Van W. of St. Paul, Minn., John Calvin of Kasson, Miss., and Harry R. and Alice of Oasis. He also leaves four brothers--Harry of Toledo, Ohio, Duff of Wheeling, West Virginia, Lute and John of Tayorville, Ill., all of whom were present except one.
