One of Johnson's county's very oldest settlers, Mrs. Martha Kirkpatrick, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. E. Pratt, at 6:50 o'clock Saturday morning. She was 87 years of age and had lived here since 1839. She was widely known and greatly esteemed and loved by hundreds of pioneers. Three of the children, Mrs. Pratt, Mrs. Larimer Douglass of West Branch and Chas. Gayman of Indianola, were with her at the end. Her other son, Philo Trotter, lives in Prescott, Ariz. The funeral took place from Fairview church Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, Rev. Van Horn conducting the service.
