Patricia Karen Thuerauf Spychaj, 56, of Alexandria VA, formerly Iowa City, beloved wife of Marvin E. Spychaj, died suddenly Sunday, February 20, 2005, at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA.
Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2005, at St. Wencesalaus Catholic Church, Iowa City. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Solon. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday, February 27, 2005, at Brosh Chapel, Solon, were there will be 4 p.m. rosary, and a 6 p.m. vigil.
She is preceded in death by her father, John Thuerauf, a brother Bernard Thuerauf, and her nephew Joseph Thuerauf. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother Helen Thuerauf of Mt. Vernon, IA; sisters MaryAnn Hotka of River Falls,WI, and Sister Jean Thuerauf of Minneapolis, MN; brothers David (Ann) Thuerauf of Mt. Vernon, IA, and Paul (Theresa) Thuerauf of Willcox, AZ; 21 nieces and nephews; 36 great nieces and nephews; 5 great, great nieces and nephews; one aunt, Lillian Krummel of Mt. Vernon, IA, and numerous cousins.
A native of Solon, IA, she attended Regina High School in Iowa City, IA, and graduated from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. For the last 30 years she was employed by Site Realty Group of Lanham, MD, from which she had retired recently. She was a graduate of the Education for Parish Service (EPS) program, Trinity College, Washington, DC, and the Master Catechetical Program of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, VA. She also sang in the Our Lady of the Blue Ridge Catholic Church choir and was a Cursillista and a member of the Brent Society. She served in numerous other church ministries including the ECHO retreat program at the American University in Washington, DC, and the Adult Formation and Rite of Christian Initiation of Adult (RCIA) programs at St. Louis Catholic Church in Alexandria, VA. She and her husband also were the owners of Patmar Antiques and Collectibles in Madison, VA.
