William White, 86
William F. "Bill" White, 86, of 1411 1/2 Rochester Ave., died Thursday, March 13, 1997, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a short illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Francis Bass officiating. Entombment will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. Memorials may be made to the Cardiology Department in care of the Mercy Hospital Foundation.
Mr. White was born July 27, 1910, in Iowa City to William J. and Anna (Kanak) White. He graduated from City High in 1937 and attended the University of Iowa. He married Doris K. Scheppele on June 4, 1938, in Dubuque.
The couple moved to Iowa City in 1939, where he was employed by the United States Postal Service. Her served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed at the pre-flight school. In the early 1960s, he was a real estate agent and worked first for the Berven Agency and later the Means Agency.
He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, the University Alumni Association and the Iowa City Board of Review from 1984 to 1986; a charter member of the North Stars; served as clerk of the Board of Review from 1986 until his death; volunteered at Mercy Hospital; and had been in charge of organizing
the pre-flight reunions, celebrating their 50th reunion in 1992.
Survivors include his wife and many nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Jack and Robert and a sister, Ellen died earlier
