Joseph Kasper, 79
Joseph C. Kasper, 79, of 3028 Radcliffe Ave., died Saturday, Feb. 10, 1996, at his home after a brief illness.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Wenceslaus Church. Burial with military rites will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Donohue-Lensing Funeral Home with a rosary being recited at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Iowa City Hospice Inc.
Mr. Kasper was born March 16, 1916, in rural Johnson County to Joseph A. and Charlotte "Lottie" (Krall) Kasper. He married Amelia Amelon Feb. 20, 1946, in Iowa City. He graduated from Solon High School in 1934. He and his wife farmed for 22 years. He retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 1979 where he had worked in facility management. He joined the U.S. Army in 1943, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart.
He was a 50-year member of the American Legion Stinocher Post in Solon, a member of St. Wenceslaus Church and was active in Johnson County Senior Center.
Survivors include four daughters, Carolyn Hanssen and her husband, Bjorn, or Rade, Norway, Mary DiViggiano and her husband, John, of Palos Park, Ill., Phyllis Jacobsen and her husband, Dennis, of West Branch, and Jane Kasper Lewis of Iowa City; one brother and his wife, W. John and Magdalen of Morse; one sister and her husband, Lorna and Lester Sanger of Lincoln, Neb.; and five grandchildren.
His wife died earlier.
