Mrs. Elizabeth Sehorn died Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Tantlinger, in Iowa City, aged nearly 91 years. She was born in Virginia in June, 1805, and was taken to Tennessee, when a child, by her parents. She settled in Union township with her husband, James Sehorn, in 1839. Her son, J. G. Sehorn, now of Wapello, was one of the first white children born in this county. Besides him she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. W. A. Tantlinger, Mrs. M. P. Weaver and Mrs. Nancy Smith. Her residence in Johnson county spans the development of this region from a wilderness to its present state of prosperity and comfort. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church and was highly respected. She had enjoyed good health until within the last five years and for the past few months had been bed ridden. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter. Source: Iowa Citizen, 8 May 1896, page 5, column 3.
