DEATH TAKES IOWA PIONEER

Mrs. Leah Yoder Dies at Home of Son Friday

One of Iowa's pioneer residents, Mrs. Leah Yoder, 75, passed away Friday morning at the home of her son, Mr. Omar Yoder, near Sharon Center. Mrs. Yoder had been in failing health for the last two years.

Leah Niffenegger was born in Sharon township March 28, 1858. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ulerich Niffenegger, had emigrated to this country from Switzerland several years before. She was the sixth child.

In 1881 she became the bride of Mr. Noah Yoder and they made their home on a farm in Sharon township for 31 years. In 1912 they moved to Iowa City, residing at 611 Oakland avenue. Mr. Yoder died in April 1924, and Mrs. Yoder continued to make her home here until 18 months ago when she went to Tacoma, Wash., to pass a year at the home of another son, Dr. Edwin C. Yoder. She returned six months ago to the home of her son, Omar, near Sharon Center and remained there until her death.

Mrs. Yoder is survived by two sons, Omar and Dr. Edwin C. Yoder; two sisters, Mrs. Dan Sleichter of Iowa City and Mrs. Elizabeth Green of Keota, and one brother, Mr. U. S. Niffenegger of Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Evangelical church at Sharon. the Beckman funeral home is in charge.
