Mary Marner, 82, Dies SuddenlyMiss Mary Melinda Marner, 82, of 211 Richards street, died suddenly of a heart attack at her home at 1 a.m. today.
Miss Marner was born near Sharon Center, March 22, 1875, the daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth Penrod Marner. She had lived in Iowa City for 70 years.
After graduating from the Iowa City academy, Miss Marner taught rural schools in Johnson County for a number of years, and for 30 years was drapery department manager in the Strub department store here.
She was a member of the Christian church.
Survivors include a sister, Miss Susie Marner, of Iowa City, and a number of nieces and nephews. Two sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.
Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Beckman's with the Rev. A.C. Hofrichter, pastor of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Sharon Evangelical Cemetery.Source #2: Des Moines Register 6/28/1957

IOWA CITY, IA - Miss Mary Melinda Marner, 82, died Thursday after suffering a heart attack in her home here.
She taught in Johnson County rural schools several years after graduating from the old Iowa City Academy. Then for 30 years she was a manager of the drapery department in a department store here.
A sister, Miss Susie Marner, Iowa City, survives. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Beckman's Funeral Home.
