DEATH OF MRS. SCHRADER

Another Aged and Respected Citizen Passes Away

After a week's illness, Mrs. Christian Schrader, and aged and respected citizen of Kalona, died last Friday. She had been troubled for years with chronic bronchitis, but the direct cause of her death was pneumonia. When it was found that the end was near her children were summoned, but only Benjamin of Thornburg, Mrs. Troyer of Sharon, and Miss Kate who resides at home were here in time to be present when the end came.
Fredericka Dora Hannah Monk was born in Kittendorf, Mecklingburg, Germany, January 19, 1827, and died at Kalona, Iowa, Feb. 7, 1902, at the age of 75 years and 26 days.
She was married to Christian Schrader Oct. 20, 1848. They came to America in November of 1853, and removed to Iowa in 1858, settling near Sharon Center, where, with the exception of a few months spent in Iowa City, they resided until December 1893, when they moved to Kalona. When about 38 years of age Mrs. Schrader united with the Evangelical Association - now the United Evangelical church of Sharon. She has been a devoted church member and consistent christian, and few people have been more loved and respected for their many virtues than she. Then union of Mr. and Mrs. Schrader was blessed with seven sons and two daughters. Of these there remain to mourn her loss four sons and two daughters, also her husband who is in very poss health. Three sons preceded her tot he land beyond.
The funeral service was held in the Sharon Center Evangelical church, Sunday at 2 o'clock, the pastor, Rev. S.H. Streyfeller, in charge, and was largely attended. Interment was made in the cemetery nearby. The relatives from away who were able to be present were Benjamin Schrader and wife and Mrs. Mary Schrader of Thornburg, M.W. Schrader of Lakefield, Minn., Mrs. Troyer, two sons and two daughters from Sharon.
