H. W. Strickler Dies At Home Monday, May 8

Henry W. Stickler, 78, former Iowa City cab driver and Sharon store operator, died at 5:35 a.m. in his home Monday, following an illness of several months.
Mr. Strickler was born on a farm in Sharon township, December 17, 1871, the son of Henry and Charlotte Bird Strickler and grew up in that community.
He was married in 1901 to Bertha Kesselring and afterward the couple established a home at Sharon where Mr. Strickler operated a store. In 1914 they moved to Iowa City and for many years Mr. Strickler operated a taxi here.
He was a member of the Sharon Masonic lodge having received his 50-year membership jewel April 18 this year. He also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star at Sharon and of the Sharon Evangelical United Brethren church.
Surviving him are his widow; two sons, Lloyd Strickler of Kalona Raymond Strickler of Sigourney; one brother, John, of Kalona, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One son, Don Ardell Strickler died at the age of two years. Another son, Elmus (Red) Strickler, preceded him in death in 1937.
Brief funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Oathout funeral chapel in Iowa City.
Another funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Sharon Evangelical United Brethren church. Burial was made in the church's cemetery.
The Rev. Ira J. Hoover, pastor of the Sharon church officiated at both services. Masonic services also were held at the graveside.
