Theresa “Jean” Neuzil, 91, died at Lantern Park Care Center, Sunday, April 29, 2018 after a short illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 3rd at St Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Entombment at Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, where the rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m.

Jean was born March 12, 1927 in rural West Branch area to Hugh Bernard Donohue and Mary Agnes Fitzpatrick Donohue. She graduated in 1945 from City High School and became a telephone operator. Jean married Gerald Francis Neuzil on August 20, 1947 in Iowa City and they settled on a farm five miles west of Iowa City. She was very involved with every aspect of farming and livestock operation. In addition to farming, she had a passion for gardening- nothing gave her more pleasure than to give freely from her garden. Jean was an avid Hawkeye fan, and enjoyed watching college football and basketball. She enjoyed baking, especially pies and cookies. Spending time with her family was her greatest joy. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and always attended early mass on Sunday morning with Bobby Rogers.

Jean Neuzil is survived by her children Mary Jean Neuzil Cochran (Dan) of Ankeny, Iowa and William “Bill” Neuzil (Julie) of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandchildren Julie Ann Cochran Applebaum (Matt), Jason Daniel Cochran (Holly) of Indianola, Katherine “Katie” Neuzil of Ely and Laura Neuzil of Iowa City, four great grandchildren, Jessica and Daniel Applebaum and McCoy and Titus Cochran, sisters-in- law Laurel Neuzil of Oxford and Patricia Dohrer of Palm Bay, Florida, nieces and nephew and her furry friend “Murphy”.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Mary Monica and Ann Rose Donohue and Marjorie Marie Donohue Pederson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice, 1035 Wade Street, Iowa City, Iowa 52240 or Theresa Jean Neuzil Memorial Fund. The family wishes to thank the Lantern Park staff for their compassionate care during Jean’s recent stay.
