Bill Smith, 64, of Marengo passed away at home Sunday, April 29, 2018 after a lengthy illness.

Military Honors will be performed by the Oxford American Legion, Saturday, May 5th at 10:30 AM at the Oxford Legion. A memorial gathering for family and friends will follow the ceremony. Memorial donations may be directed to Essence of Life Hospice of Amana or The Oxford Legion.

Bill was born September 1, 1953 to Andy and Mary (Kinney) Smith in Iowa City. He was a 1972 graduate of West High School and proudly served in the Marine Corps for 8 years. Bill liked to fish and dance, and also enjoyed time spent cheering on the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Survivors include his daughter Holly (John Cisto II) Saldivar; siblings, Mary Jane Marion, Paul Smith, Bob Smith (Regi) and Julie (Mike) Struzynski; Al Josse, who was like a brother; brother-in-law Marv Hammen; grandchildren Samantha and John Cisto III; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Betty and brother-in-law, Leo Marion.

A special thanks to Essence of Life Hospice and Al and Jessica for the care they provided to Bill.
