Jo An Riter, mother of Kim Swanson, died Monday, April 23, at the Oaknoll Health Center.

Private family services will be held. Memorials may be directed to the Oaknoll Foundation, “The Loft Project.” The family would like to extend their appreciation to all the caregivers at Oaknoll and all the Iowa City Hospice caregivers for the wonderful care provided to our loving mother, Jo An.

Jo An was born July 30, 1926 in Des Moines, where she attended Roosevelt High School. She studied art history at the University of Colorado. Jo An was a longtime resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she volunteered at St Francis Hospital and the Santa Fe Public Library.

Survivors include her four children; Kim (Chuck) Swanson of Coralville, J. C. (Donna) O’Neill of Burbank, CA, Marshall (Melode) of Spirit Lake, IA, and Mary (Jerry) Hughes of Boulder City, NV; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her brother, Sigurd (Ann) Anderson of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Riter, and her beautiful, infant great-granddaughter, Emme.
