Marcus L. Villhauer, 82, of Oxford, passed away peacefully at Crestview Specialty Care in West Branch on Sunday, April 22, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Thursday, April 26 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford with Father Edmond Dunn officiating. Visitation will be from 4- 7 pm on Wednesday at the church. Burial with military honors will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Oxford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marcus Villhauer Memorial Fund.

Marcus was born on September 26, 1935 in Iowa City, the son of Phillip and Margaret “Peg” (Stockman) Villhauer. He was raised in the Cosgrove and Oxford area and graduated from Oxford High School. On July 5, 1958, Marcus married Mary “Ann” Hennes at St. Mary’s in Oxford. A few days following their wedding, Marcus went to serve in the Korean Conflict in The US Army. Following his return from the service, Marcus drove a semi-truck for a short period, then began farming which he continued throughout his life. Marcus ended his working career at Purethane in West Branch.

In his free time, Marcus enjoyed playing softball, woodworking, fishing, gardening and tinkering at the farm, attending auctions, and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife Mary “Ann” and their five children: Amy and Earl Berg, Tom and Denise Villhauer, Ken Villhauer, Jim and Katie Villhauer, and John and Emily Villhauer; five siblings: Janice and Dave Nelson, Geraldine and Charles Ries, Nancy and Charles Freeland, Mike and Faith Villhauer, and Kirk and Cris Villhauer; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law Karen Vanorny (Leonard) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marcus was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Stanley.
