Shirley Ann Sindt Day 1927-2005

Shirley Ann Sindt Day, 77, a resident of Lantern Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Coralville and formerly of 1905 Brown Deer Road in Coralville, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at Lantern Park after a brief illness.

Visitation will be on Sunday, February 20 from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon at Lensing’s Oakhill, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville, with funeral services to follow at noon at Lensing’s Oakhill. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Walcott Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a favorite University of Iowa fund.

Shirley was born March 26, 1927, the daughter of Arnold M. and Lillian (Riessen) Sindt in Walcott, Iowa. She graduated from Davenport High School and the University of Iowa College of Commerce. IN 1947, while at the University, she married David Wilbur Day. They were married for 55 years and raised four sons. They made homes in many parts of the country, but settled back in Iowa City/Coralville twenty-three years ago.

Shirley especially loved her grandchildren and looked forward to their visits to Iowa City. She was an enthusiastic photographer and generously distributed her pictures to friends and relatives around the country. Shirley was a loyal Hawkeye supporter, backing the College of Business and many sports teams.

Survivors include four sons: David Day and his wife Lynne of Vermillion, South Dakota; Daniel Day and his wife Deborah of Edina, Minnesota: Douglas Day and his wife Debra of Austin, Texas: and Dennis Day and his wife Sandra of Phoenix, Arizona; her AFS son Tawab Hessam and his wife Harriet who David and Shirley considered one of their children; and eleven grandchildren Daniel, Elizabeth, Sarah, David, William, John, Jennifer, Catherine, Kaela, Livingston, and Mahaley. She is also survived by many cousins from the Sindt and Riessen families in the Scott County area.
