Alfred T. Winborn, 91, Former Resident, Dies This Morning

Alfred T. Winborn, 91, resident for many years of Johnson County, died at 4:30 a.m. today at a Vinton hospital after an illness of several months.
He had been making his home with a daughter in Vinton. Mr. Winborn was born October 19, 1856, in Ohio, the son of James and Emily Shoesmith Winborn.
He came to Johnson County at the age of 14 years but moved several years later to Minden, Nebr., hwere he was married May 13, 1880, to Marsha Gorsuch.
The couple lived near Minden, for many years in the Sharon Community and after Mr. Winborn's retirement in 1924, at Kalona. Mrs. Winborn died August 27, 1937.
Surviving him are five daughters, Mrs. Dorr Whitmore, New Providence, Iowa, Mrs. Lester Means, North Liberty, Mrs. Roy Sipple, Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Elza Means, Iowa City, and Mrs. Ralph Shaw, Vinton.
Three sons, John T. Winborn, Iowa City, Lewis A. Winborn, Williamsburg, and George M. Winborn, Davenport; a sister Mrs. Caroline Zager, Tipton; 29 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Sharon Evangelical Church, with the Rev. Ira J. Hoover officiating. Burial will be in the churches cemetery. The body will remain at the Oathout Funeral Home in Iowa City until Monday afternoon.
