E. Lucile Miller, age 96, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Atrium Village, Hills, Iowa where she had lived for the past fifteen years. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Sharon Center United Methodist Church, 2804 520th Street SW, Kalona, IA with Pastor Doug Cue officiating. Burial will be in the Sharon Center Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 4, from 4-7pm at Peterseim Funeral Home, 201 Ave. B Kalona, Iowa

Eveyln Lucile Smith was born April 27, 1914 in Upham, North Dakota the daughter of Tillman and Cora May (Ressler) Smith.
She attended schools in Akeley and Park Rapids, Minnesota graduating from high school in 1931 from Iowa City City High School, Iowa City, Iowa. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa in 1934. She was an honor student, cum Laude, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
She taught high school at Percival and Lisbon, Iowa before her marriage on December 2, 1937 to Delbert R. Miller of Sharon Center, Iowa. They farmed in the Sharon Center are for over forty years. For many years she enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She gave piano lessons to many of the neighborhood children. She enjoyed traveling, visiting all of the States except the state of Maine.
After the last child was in High School, she taught Mid-Prairie Junior High School in Kalona, Iowa.
She was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church; Rose of Sharon United Methodist Women; former Sharon Center Corona Eastern Star Chapter, now Iowa City Jessamine Eastern Star chapter; and Phi Beta Kappa. She served as treasurer of the Sharon Evangelical United Brethren church building committee in 1959. Formerly active in Sharon Women's Club, Sharon card club, Octagon Barn Questers, Iowa City Hospice, Iowa City Genealogical Society, Iowa City Historical Society.
Surviving Lucile are her son, Robert E. and wife Karen (Kobes) Miller rural Riverside, Iowa; their children Dawn (Jeff) Hays of Iowa City, Iowa and their daughter Sara Nightingale of Chicago, Illinois; Thomas Miller and his son Eric Miller of Denver, Iowa and his daughter Katelyn Miller of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Son, Russell A Miller of rural Iowa City, Iowa and his children Scott Miller of rural Columbus Junction, Iowa and his son Jesse Miller of Coralville, Iowa; Deborah (Tony) Cashin and their children Dallas and Dalton Miller of rural Kalona, Iowa. Daughter, Ann L. and husband Glenn Butcher of Mason City, Iowa. Step-grandchildren Jodi Boone of Wellman, Iowa, Jill (Jake) Ressler of Swisher, Iowa, sister-in-law, Marjorie (Schwimley) Miller of rural Iowa City, Iowa; and five nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Delbert on November 23, 1983; sister Helen I. Park; brothers-in-law Glenn H Miller, and James Park; step-grandson Travis Jennings; granddaughter-in-law Sarah (Serbousek) Miller and special friend, Eldon C. Stutsman.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be made to Atrium Village, PO Box 220, Hills, IA 52240; Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade Street, Iowa City, IA 52240; Sharon Center United Methodist Church, 2804 520th Street SW, Kalona, IA 52247.
Thank you to the personnel of Atrium Village, Visiting Nurse Association of Johnson County, and Iowa City Hospice; Doctors Nyle Kauffman and Frederick Ovrom, and the many friends who have touched Lucile;s life and that of her family.
