Woodrow Weeber, 98

A celebration of life for Woodrow (Woody) I. Weeber will be held Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 2:00PM at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church in rural Kalona with Pastor Doug Cue officiating. Burial will follow at the Sharon Center Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from 4:30 - 7:30PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. Woody died Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Pleasantview Home following a brief illness. A memorial fund has been established for the Sharon Center United Methodist Church kitchen, Pleasantview Home or Hospice of Iowa City.
Woodrow Weeber was born November 19, 1912 the son of Walter and Kate Weeber. Woody attended Sharon Township grade school and graduated in 1927. He attended Sharon High School in Sharon Center, graduating in 1931. Upon graduation he commenced farming in Sharon Township. Livestock operations included sheep, dairy cattle, Hereford beef cattle, hogs, chickens and turkeys. Crop operations included corn, sorghum, oats and alfalfa hay. Woody farmed until 1958 when he took up employment in Iowa City. Nearing his retirement he helped his brother, Harold, with the farming operation. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Austin on February 25, 1937
Woody was a man of many interests including antique cars, fishing in Canada, Lions Club, Masons's Shriner, Senior Center, Sharon Center United Methodist Church, card games, eating anything in sight and attending all social events possible.
Survivors include one daughter and two sons, Patricia Kay (Paul) Shebek of Iowa City and their children, Tony (Suzanne) Shebek, Randy (Rhonda) Shebek, Rich (Julie) Shebek, and Julie (Jeff) Harper, son Steve (Jan) Weeber of Iowa City and their children, Kathy (Paul) Palicki and Todd (Beth) Weeber and son Stanley (Julie) Weeber of Lake Charles, LA and her daughter Abigail. Woody also had 16 great grandchildren.
Woody was preceded in death by his parents, wife Evelyn, brother Harold and sister-in-law Helen.
