Omer Leslie Fountain was born in Iowa City, the son of Vernon L. and Myrna Eva (Van Syoc). He attended rural school and Kalona and Riverside High School.
Omer and Ruth Charbon were married in the Tiffin Methodist Church on May 31, 1958. The couple farmed in the community all their married life and Omer passed away in his home.
Omer served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church. He was a Past Master, 50 year member, and served many years as secretary of Fellowship Masonic Lodge, a Past Patron and member of Corona Chapter, OES, and Johnson County Farm Bureau. In his youth he was a member of Junior Farm Bureau. He also was a 4-H and Weebelo Scout Leader for many years.
Omer was a farmer all his life. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, model railroads, and photography.
Omer is survived by his wife, Ruth, four children and their spouses, Vernon of Kalona, Myrna and Peter Lebron of LaGrange, MO, Brenda and Kurt Jurgensmeier of Marion, IA, and Kathryn and Tim Gossett of Ames, IA. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Isaiah Lebron, Rosana Lebron, Hannah Lebron, Preciosa Lebron, Jessica Jurgensmeier, Joelle Jurgensmeier, Jenna Jurgensmeier, Joseph Jurgensmeier, and Joshua Jurgensmeier. Other survivors include two sisters and their husbands, Anna May and Richard Geyer of Kalona, and Vera and Vernon Hepker of Iowa City.
A memorial fund in Omer's memory has been established for the Sharon Center United Methodist Church or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Omer was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, David Keith Fountain.
Omer's family wishes to express their gratitude for the many acts of kindness extended to them during Omer's illness and at this time of their loss. You will be remembered with love.
