P. F. Schwimley Dead
Philip Schwimley passed away at his home in Wellman Tuesday night, after several months of severe suffering. His death had been expected at any time for a number of days, and his children and Mrs. Schwimley were all at his bedside when the end came.
Funeral services are being held today at the home at 12:15, and later at Sharon Center, where interment will take place.
Philip F. Schwimley, son of Mr. Adam J. and Anna Christenia Schwimley, was born in Dresden, Muskingum county, Ohio, Sept. 2, 1854, and departed this life at his late residence in Wellman Iowa, March 29, 1927, aged 72 years, 6 months, and 27 days.
In 1855, when the deceased was about seven months old his parents with the family moved to Iowa, settling on a farm in Sharon township, Johnson county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood, getting a common education in the schools of that day and times, and as an avocation he followed farming, living on the old family homestead.
About ten years ago he retired from the farm, and lived in Sharon Center for about four years, and for about six years he has lived in Wellman, where he ended his days.
His sickness was of months' duration, and the nature of his affliction caused him at times great suffering until the end came. He loved his family, and desired if it were God's will to stay with them yet a while, otherwise he said he was ready to go as the Master willed.
The deceased was untied in marriage with Miss Annie E. Ressler, also of Sharon Center, on Christmas Day, 1878. To this union was born three children, namely; Mrs. Carrie Marner, of Wellman; Mrs. Mabel Winborn and Mr. Lee Schwimley, both of Sharon Center. These with a loving bereft companion, eight grandchildren, one brother, Rev. A. Schwimley, of Wellman, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Church, of Guthrie, Okla., Mrs. Anna J. Snavelly, of Whittier, California and a large circle of relatives and friends remain to mourn their loss.
For about 36 years he was the superintendent of the Sharon Evangelical Sunday School and for many years a member of said church. He was ever ready to render assistance to all in times of need. Also for a number of years he held the office of Justice of the Peace in said township.
His labors are done; his sufferings are at an end, and he has entered into his rest.
The funeral services are being held today at the home at 12:15, conducted by Rev. Rex, and at Sharon Center Evangelical church, at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Shanks and Rev. Brown. Interment will take place in the family plot of the Sharon Center cemetery.
