Omar Yoder

Omar R. Yoder, 88, founder and past president of the Sharon High School Association and a longtime director of the Sharon Township Schools, died Thursday evening at Pleasantview Home in Kalona after a sudden illness.
A retired farmer in the Sharon Center area, he was also a former director of Iowa State Bank and Trust and was secretary of the Farmers Electric Cooperative for a number of years.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was to have begun at 4 p.m. today at the George L. Gay Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Pleasantview Home or the Gideon International Fund.
He was born Dec. 17, 1888, in Johnson County, to Noah and Leah Niffenegger Yoder. He attended Iowa City Academy. He married Emma Petsel in 1911. She died in 1936. He married Laura Billman in 1956. She died in 1962.
He was a member of the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, AF & AM No. 549, OES No. 297, and Farm Bureau.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. J. Orville (Mabel) Hora of West Branch, Mrs. Wayne (Emily) Roberts and Mrs. Russell (Charlotte) Lackender, both of Iowa City, Theodore of Comanche, and Alan of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; 23 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wives, two sons died earlier.
