Elias Strickler was born in Knox County, Ohio, May 20, 1842. When 14 years of age he came with his parents to Iowa, making the trip by ox team locating in Johnson County.
On November 11, 1867 he was married to Miss Amelia Zager. The deceased early in life gave his Heart to God, and united with the church to which he remained faithful to the end, which came on the beautiful spring morning May 10th, when with a Triumphant "Glory to God, I am going home" and a smile on his face he departed to greet His Savior whom he loved.
The chair is vacant, the voice we loved is still. We will miss you, but will greet you over there. He leaves to mourn, his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Troyer of Kalona, Mrs. Z.I. Grout of Tingley, Iowa, Mrs. Jos. H. Miller of Sharon and one son, Charley, at home together with eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon. A short service at the home in Kalona, and a service at the Sharon U. E. Church, conducted by the pastor, L. H. Wood. Interment was made in the Sharon Center U. E. church cemetery.
