Charlotte Harriet Strickler 1832-1913

Charlotte Harriet iBrd was born Dec. 30, 1832 in Knox County, Ohio.
She was married to Henry Strickler, Feb. 6, 1856. Shortly after their marriage they came to Iowa. locating in Johnson county, near Sharon Center, where most of their life was spent.
Nearly 40 years ago her husband died. The widow continued to live in the vicinity of Sharon Center, up to about four years ago, when she moved to Miles, Iowa , to live with her daughter, the wife of Dr. W. A. Marner. She passed away Tuesday April 29, about 2:30 a.m. at the age of 80 years, 3 months, and 29 days.
The funeral services of Mrs. Strickler were held at the Sharon United Evangelical church on Friday May, 2, and she was laid to rest beside her husband in the cemetery of the Methodist church near Sharon Center. The sermon was preached by Rev. Adam Schwimley of Iowa City who was a life long friend of the deceased. He was assisted by the pastor, Rev. Geo. Roths. The hymns which Mrs. Strickler had loved from girlhood were beautifully rendered by a quartet.
Mrs. Strickler leaves four children Mrs. W.A. Marner of Miles; Mrs. L. J. Marner of Iowa City; John and Henry of Sharon Center. Two children are dead, a son of two and a daughter of eighteen. There are thirteen grand children.
Mrs. Strickler united with the M.E. church early in life and later joined the Evangelical church by letter. She was a devoted and faithful Christian. During the last few weeks of her life she endured a great deal of pain but uttered not a word of complaint nor a murmur. To help her in her illness she would read good books and literature all the day, both religious and secular. Keeping in touch with all the current events of the day. Oft during those days she could be heard signing and reading the Bible and praying. It was said of her by the Congregational pastor of Miles that when he visited her he felt that he was standing on holy ground for God was there. Her faults were few, her virtues and graces were many.
