Obituary
Barbara Weyerman was born June 19, 1830, in Kenton Bern, Switzerland, and died January 8, 1915, at the home of her son, Fred Grundbacker's, her age being 84 years, 6 months and 17 days. She was united in marriage to Ulrich Grundbacker in 1850. To this union five children were born: Mrs. Mary Wagner of Monroe, Wis.; Mrs. S. Cupp of Sharon Township; Fred Grundbacker of Sharon Township. Barbara Schrote who died Nov. 26, 1901; Mrs. Jno. Schrote of Oklahoma. In the year 1869 Mr. and Mrs. Grundbacker started for America. The former took sick enroute to this country and died on the ocean. Mrs. Grundbacker and the children came to Monroe, Wis., remaining there for a short time only, and finally moving to Iowa locating in Johnson County. It was here that she met Mr. Geo. Nordhouse to whom she was married in 1872. To this union one child was born, Mrs. Rose Bayers of Sharon Township. This second union was broken by the death of Mr. Nordhouse in the year 1892. Mrs. Nordhouse lived a quiet unassuming life - a life that was not without the fruits of honesty, gentleness and love. She was a good wife, and a kind and patient mother. She found time in the midst of her busy life, to teach to the children the ways of God.
The deceased was a member of the Lutheran church before she united with the Evangelistic Church. God was a living reality to her. This was evident from what she said and the life she lived. It was her request that the text in Jno. 10; 27, 28 be used at her funeral. The circle of friends she won for herself was large. The floral tributes given by the friends and the churches in the community were many and beautiful. The male quartet of the M. E. Church of Kalona, sang. Rev. Baumgarten, who assisted in the quartet, sang a solo entitled: "Some Time We'll Understand." The singing was beautiful and comforting.
The services were held in the Sharon M.E. Church on Monday January 11 at 2:30 p.m., Rev. Roths preached the sermon. Interment was made in the cemetery near the church. Mr. Snider of Kalona, directed the funeral.
