Carroll F. Sleichter, 86 of Iowa City, Iowa died Sunday, January 23, 2005 at Iowa City Rehabilitation Center.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service , 605 Kirkwood Ave. Iowa City. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Lensing. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery where military rites will be conducted. Memorials may be directed to Reach for Your Potential 1705 S. First Ave. Iowa City, IA 52240.

Carroll was born June 30, 1918 the son of Ralph and Erma(Flynn) Sleichter in Riverside, Iowa. He graduated from Kalona High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On February 1, 1949 he married Johanna Colbert.

He farmed for many years and later worked as an Equipment Operator retiring from Barker Construction Co. in 1997. He was an avid Hawkeye and Chicago Cub fan. His family was his pride and joy. Carroll was a member of the Riverside V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife Johanna of Iowa City, his children Mary Roberts and her husband Lee of Washington, Iowa, Ann Clawson and her husband Donald of O’Fallon, Missouri, Beverly Morano and her husband Terry of Walled Lake, Michigan, Jim Sleichter of Iowa City, Iowa, Nick Sleichter and his wife Peg of Fairfax, Virginia, Marti Stumpf and her husband Ron of Riverside, Iowa, George Sleichter of Anchorage, Alaska; 17 grandchildren, two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Dan Sleichter of Minneapolis, Minnesota, three sisters, Edith Moorhead and her husband Phillip of Marion, Iowa, Norma Fry and her husband Earl of Kalona, Iowa and Dora Kallaus of Kalona, Iowa. He is also survived by one-sister-in-law, Nancy Sleichter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Richard and Vern, one sister, Dortha Chapek and one grandchild, Elena.
