V. Earl Wear, 80, formerly of Iowa City, died peacefully Sunday, January 9, 2005 at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids with his loving family at his side.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm (noon) Thursday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City with Pastor Tim Zimmermann officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville. The family will host a luncheon immediately following the funeral service with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established.

Earl was born January 10, 1924 in Plymouth, Illinois, the son of Verden & Estel (McFadden) Wear.

Earl married June Peterson February 1, 1946 in Bedford, Iowa. He was a tire department manager with Montgomery Ward stores in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids for many years. Earl was also a business partner with his son Jerry in Happy Valley Sales. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City and had been a resident of Iowa City from 1959 until 1998.

Survivors include his children, son, Jerry Wear & his wife Vicki of Iowa City,
daughters, Joyce Hosek & her husband Verne of Fairfax and Judy Fink & her husband Mike of Collierville, TN. ; grandchildren, Ryan Wear (Ashley), Tammy Krantz (Art), Amy Becicka (Dave), Troy Hosek (Tristen), Todd Hosek (girlfriend Rikki), Michael Fink (Melanie) and Lance Fink; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Zachary & Andrew Krantz, Elli & Ty Becicka and Taryn Hosek; brother, Gordon Wear & his wife Carole of Centerville, TX. ; and several nieces & nephews.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife June and two brothers, Elvin and Kenneth.
