Nora May Eckard

Nora May Eckard, 93, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 8, surrounded by family and her beloved cat. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice, Elder Services, or the First United Methodist Church.

Nora May was born August 5, 1911 on a farm near Tarkio, Missouri to Leona and W.B. Fitzgerald.

She graduated valedictorian of her high school class in Craig, Missouri and attended Chillicothe Business College. On July 16, 1933 she married Glen Eckard.

In 1946 the family, which included two daughters, Glenora and Edie, moved to Iowa City.

Nora May raised the family while Glen was employed as the finance officer for the City of Iowa City.

She was a life long member of the Methodist Church and was very active in many of its organizations. As a couple, they were active in square dancing. She later kept busy with the AARP and was a Member with Honor of the Iowa City Women’s Club.

Nora May is survived by her daughter Edie Roberts and son-in-law Don, son-in-law Jerry Irvin and wife Lee, grandchildren Doug Irvin, Lisa Ramey, Becky Roberts, Andy Roberts and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Glen, daughter Glenora, two infant granddaughters, her parents, a sister, and a brother.

She will be remembered always and missed greatly.
