Leota Adams Keyes, 90, of 1777 Mallory St SW Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, January 5th, 2004, at Lantern Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2004, at Lensing Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Iowa City, followed by an open house from 5-7 p.m. at the El Kahir Shrine Embassy Club, 1400 Blairs Ferry Road NE, Cedar Rapids, IA.

Leota was born March 4, 1914 in Huggins, Missouri the daughter of Calvin Adams and Flora Zirschky. She was first married to Elisworth Riley in August 1932. They had two daughters together, Norma Jean and Lois Irene. In March of 1946, Leota married Charles Keyes. Together they had one son, Larry Calvin.

Leota was an active member of the El Kahir Shrine Auxiliary and Daughters of The Nile. She worked for many years at Killian’s as an account clerk. Leota enjoyed gardening and canning. She also enjoyed sewing outfits and blankets for children at the Shriner’s hospitals.

Leota loved her family dearly. She is survived by her brother Kenneth of Mountain Grove, MO; three children, Norma Cochran of Roseville, CA, previously of Iowa City, Lois Hay (Don) of Live Oak, CA, and Larry Keyes (Linda) of Davenport, IA; ten grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren; two nieces, Susan, Linda and their children all of Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and a stepson, Bill.
