Carol Jeanne (Martin) Jondle, 70, died Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a brief illness.

Funeral Services will begin Thursday at 2:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers or plants, the family kindly requests memorials to The Carol J. Jondle Memorial Fund.

Carol was born May 15, 1946 near Fairbury, NE to Charles and Theresa Martin. She graduated from West Branch High School and from the University School of Cosmetology in 1967.

Carol married Gary Jondle on May 25, 1968 in Iowa City. Carol worked as a licensed cosmetologist for several years before deciding to stay home and raise her family.

After her children were older Carol returned to work. She worked for various companies in the Iowa City area including ACT, UIHC, Hancher, and Revenue Cycle Partners. After rejoining the workforce full time Carol also decided to return to school and earned her Associate of Arts degree and a paralegal certificate from Kirkwood Community College. Carol was also involved with her children’s activities and volunteered as a Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader, and Church School teacher.

Carol loved her children and grand children deeply and her greatest joy came from attending their activities and spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening and was an avid fan of HGTV and other home decorating shows. She was also an accomplished seamstress and sewed her own wedding dress, graduation dress, and her daughter’s prom dress.

Carol is survived by her husband Gary; her son Nathan (Meagan) Jondle of Lone Tree, IA; her daughter Katie (Mike) Thoma of New Berlin, WI; and 6 grandchildren: Caden, Colton, Maddox, Benjamin, Emma, and Nicholas; her brothers Dennis (Corky) Martin of Wellman, IA; Charles (Vicki) Martin of Cedar Valley, IA; and Larry (Mary) Martin of Murfreesboro, TN; a sister Melba Lyvers of Iowa City, IA; brother in law Richard (Donna) Jondle of Oakdale, IA; and Larry Jondle of Brush, CO; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Theresa Martin.
