Todd Gregory Turner, 23, ended his life on Sunday, October 9, 2016 in Iowa City after a long battle with mental illness. Todd suffered valiantly with Bi-Polar disorder and other related elements of the disease for a large majority of his life.
Funeral Services will be held at 3PM, Friday, October 14th at Adiel Baptist Church, 1032 Highway C, Frankford, MO.63441. Burial will be at Brice Cemetery. Visitation will be from Noon to 2PM Friday at O’Donnell Funeral Home, 302 South 5th Street, Hannibal, MO 63401. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Box 167, Iowa City 52244 for the benefit of the Iowa City Animal Shelter and the Little Hawks Sports Boosters in Todd’s name.
Todd was born November 26, 1992 in Quincy, Illinois, to parents Greg Turner and Amy Schmitt.
Todd was a 2011 graduate of Iowa City, City High School, where he proudly played on the Little Hawks state championship football team of 2009 and runner up in 2010. Todd loved his teammates and considered them brothers; especially close friends James Taylor and Cam Tucker. Todd worked for James in construction in Iowa City.
Todd loved being with friends and family. He enjoyed the outdoors – fishing, riding 4 wheelers, and especially riding his motorcycle. He was a fantastic athlete, but especially enjoyed being on teams with his friends. He loved being on the family farm, and taking care of animals. He would try to rescue and love any animal he came across. He had a wonderful heart and empathy for others in need. Todd loved to see people smile with his wonderful sense of humor.
Todd his survived by his father, Greg (Tammy) Turner of Iowa City and his mother, Amy Schmitt (Bobby Johnston) of Rural Ralls County, MO; four siblings, James and Morgan Turner, both of Iowa City and Seth Bruenger of Loraine, IL Tucker Bruenger of Rural Ralls County; paternal grandparents, Jack and Doris Turner of Boise, ID; maternal grandparents, Larry and Linda Schmitt of Colchester, IL. and Jim and Mary Kempf of Columbia, MO; his aunt, Kathy (Mark) Burriesci of Boise, ID and his uncle, Eric (Carri) Schmitt of Bloomington, IL. He will be missed by many friends in Iowa City, Macomb, IL, Mendon, IL, and Rural Ralls County, MO.
