Services for Edward L. O'Connor, 82, a former state attorney general and Iowa City lawyer for more than 50 years, were held at 11 a.m. June 25 at St. Mary Catholic church, Iowa City. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery. The Donohue mortuary, Iowa City, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. O'Connor died June 21 at Cedar Manor Nursing home. He retired from law practice in Iowa City four years ago. A Democrat, he was elected attorney-general in 1933 and re-elected in 1935. He had been Johnson County attorney from 1923 to 1927 and was a former president of the Johnson County Bar Assn. He was twice a nominee for the State Supreme Court, in 1952 and 1960, but lost both times.
He was graduated from Lone Tree high school and served from 1913 to 1915 as superintendent of schools at Burt. He was born in Fremont Township, Johnson county and was graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1920. He married Florence Freeman of Iowa City in 1917 and she preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Wayne Miller, Tipton and Mrs. L. K. Makoutz, Virginia; two sons, Edward, Davenport and Martin, Milwaukee, Wis., and 21 grandchildren.
