Marjorie Schenck Dane, 91, peacefully reached the sunset of her life on Monday, July 25, 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 2, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Funeral Services to celebrate Marjorie’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 3, at First United Methodist Church, Iowa City, with Rev. Dr. Barrie Tritle officiating. Graveside committal will be at 1:00 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be offered to the First United Methodist Church Foundation, Mercy Hospital Foundation, Oaknoll Foundation, or the Iowa City Community School District Foundation FBO Marjorie S. Dane Music Fund.

Marjorie was born September 26, 1924 in Iowa City, the daughter of Dr. Walter Leslie and Ethel (Denton) Schenck. She was a 1942 graduate of City High School and later Brown’s Business College. On February 23, 1944, Marjorie married George R. Dane at her family’s home on E. College Street in Iowa City.

Marjorie was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school; P.E.O. Chapter KZ, past president; Johnson County Republican Women’s Club, past vice president; Johnson County Republican Headquarters, secretary in 1964; YWCA, past president; Reserve Officers Association for Ladies; Army Officers Wives; Mercy Hospital Guild with over 7000 volunteer hours dating back to 1962; and a 4-H leader for West Lucas Whirlwinds. Marjorie and George loved to travel, especially to visit relatives and friends. Marjorie was a long time supporter of Iowa Wrestling. She and George frequently traveled with the Hawkeye Area Wrestling Klub (H.A.W.K.).

Love of family was central to Marjorie’s life. Marjorie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their athletic and music activities. She especially cherished the snuggles offered by all of her great grandchildren. She and George took numerous road trips to visit extended family throughout the country.

Her family extends its deep gratitude to the Oaknoll caregivers and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics physicians and staff for their compassionate care for Marjorie.

Marjorie is survived by her loving husband, George, and their four children, Janet (Francis) Driscoll, Bob (Sue) Dane, and Mary Jo Dane (David Morice, Partner), all of Iowa City, and Bill (Annette) Dane of Urbandale, IA; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: Jane Driscoll; Brian (Megan) Driscoll and their children Harper, Kendall and Dane; Emily (Scott) Staples and their son, Evan; Katy Dane; Dennis (Shannon) Dane and their children Ryan, Natalie and Audrey; Ellen (Chris) Young and their children Miles and Rocco; and Tristan (Tommy) Occhipinti; her sisters-in-law, Erica Schenck of Lakewood, CA, and Kathy Schweer of Iowa City; including numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Mary Ethel Woolridge and Dorothy Olmore; her brother Bob Schenck; sisters-in-law, Allie Dane and Sister Margaret Dane Hansen; brothers-in-law, Clarence Woolridge, Arthur Olmore, John Dane, and Ted Hansen.
